Family Mediation is a process that allows you to resolve your issues outside of a courtroom with a focus on your unique goals and interests. It provides you and your spouse with the support required to reach a resolution of your family law issues that is tailor made for you and your family. As a trained family mediator with over 20 years’ experience as a family lawyer, I have the knowledge and experience to help you navigate through your family issues to reach a creative solution that meets the needs of you and your family.
The family law mediation process has many benefits. It costs much less than court litigation. It also takes much less time as you will decide how quickly we proceed through the process. It allows you to negotiate with your spouse in an informal but secure environment and is confidential. Most importantly, family mediation gives you both control over the family law and separation process to find a mutually acceptable resolution of your family law issues.
You may choose to start this family mediation process without lawyers but it is recommended that you each obtain independent legal advice as part of the mediation process, especially to have a lawyer review and advise you regarding the Separation Agreement prior to signing it.
You can start the family mediation process today by contacting my assistant, Tania Brices, who will answer any questions you may have and schedule your individual meetings.
I look forward to helping you as your family mediator.
I began practice in a large, corporate firm but was drawn to divorce and family law because of its personal nature. I have always conducted my divorce and family law practice with a focus on achieving what is best for my clients whether that be through negotiation or litigation.
While practicing exclusively in the area of divorce and family law since 1993, I have gained extensive experience representing clients in divorce and family court and in negotiated settlements. I have successfully dealt with all issues such as custody and access, child support, spousal support, property division, divorce and common law relationships.
I am originally from Winnipeg. I obtained my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and my Bachelor of Laws from the University of Manitoba. I articled in Toronto and completed the Bar Admission Course in Ottawa. I have received extensive training in Family Mediation and am a member of the Ontario Association for Family Mediation. I am also trained as a collaborative divorce and family lawyer and am a member of Collaborative Practice Ottawa.
